Foreclosures Up 1000% Over Five Months in Manhattan, Says Senator27 Aug 2007August 27, 2007 (LPAC)--New York State Democratic Senator Jeffrey Klein (34th District), published a report August 27 on the sub-prime mortgage crisis, which found foreclosures rising at alarming rates throughout the New York metropolitan area. In the last 13 months (from July 2006-July 2007), there have been 14,559 foreclosure filing in New York City alone, as well as an additional 5,168 in suburban Westchester and Nassau Counties, for a metro total of 19,729. According to industry experts, New York State as a whole is on pace in 2007, to exceed the number of mortgage foreclosure filings in 2006 by a staggering 60%.
WABC Eyewitness News reported August 26, that Democratic U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is putting out his own foreclosure numbers, breaking the city down by Borough. He says homeowners have been drowning from February of this year into July. Schumer says that foreclosures in Manhattan alone have jumped 1,050 percent over that period! In Staten Island, 142%; Brooklyn, 68%; Queens, 56%; and The Bronx, 45%!
